If your total cholesterol is fewer than 200, count yourself as blessed and don’t worry about it.
If your total cholesterol is between 200 and 250 you can probably reduce it to fewer than 200 by dietary changes, and by taking the following dietary supplements each day; one teaspoon of omega three fish oil; one hundred milligrams of coenzyme Q10; at least one thousand milligrams of red yeast rice. The combination of these three nutrients has been shown do reduce cholesterol by around 50 points if taken constantly for a couple of months.
If your total cholesterol is between 250 and 300 your doctor will want to put you on a statin drug. You have a choice to make. If you think you can change your diet dramatically and follow the recommendations outlined in the second paragraph you may be able to get it under 200 without resorting to a statin.
If your cholesterol is over 300 it probably indicates that you have a genetic predisposition for high cholesterol. It often means that no matter what you try diet wise your own body is producing cholesterol and your overall levels will not go down that much without a statin drug. Try to use the lowest dose of statins that you can get away with and take at least one hundred milligrams of coenzyme Q10 everyday which I explain in the post If You Take A Statin You Need Coenzyme Q10.

Nice information... Too much cholesterol is not well for a healthy person. Cholesterol limit is between 200 to 250 is enough, above of this it may cause of problem like liver cirrhosis. Now liver cirrhosis treatment and any liver disease treatment are available in cities. but we should not be careless about our health.

My case is a lesson I learnt !
5 years ago, I was a runner, I run a Marathon and was slim.
I ate what ever I liked (many sugar added foods)..
Everything was great till the blood test that found I had close to 400 Cholesterol count (!)
I got 'slapped' in the face ! I thought sport was enough to keep the body healthy.
I had to change my diet completely.
No more 'sugar eat as much as you can' dinners.
The second test, 6 month later showed 190 count.
All I can say, is EAT HEALTHY guys, the body is a very delicate machine.

i'm not sure what my cholesterol count is, but it is good to know what the healthy level is. i do know that a diet with high amounts of garlic lowers cholesterol as well as prevents blood clots, reduces blood pressure, protects against bacterial and fungal and helps prevent cancer. you can learn more from this san diego wellness blog and learn about the health benefits of medicinal herbs in our diets.

That's a very informative and useful post. Three years ago, I thought that I was healthy as a 20 something that was exercising 3 times a week. When my doctor told me that my cholesterol level was 50 points higher than the norm, I was speechless... After a review of my lifestyle, my doctor told me that I was eating too much fat (well, I loved cheese, yogurt, well all dairy products) and that I will have to reduce that. Like Dekel, I thought that i could afford eating what I wanted because I was exercising... Well, my cholesterol level was back to normal 3 months later, after some change in my eating habits and a little help from alternative health products.

Good article! I read a study a few years ago that noted that Coenzyme Q10 reduces muscle pain in patients that take statin medications.
